The Historical Lolita: the 1760s

I love lolita’s neon nostalgia for the 1980s as much as the next girl, but let’s talk about the really historically-influenced side of lolita for a minute. Or longer.
A while ago, I wrote a rather lengthy essay for the Dressed to a Tea lolita forum that went into a good amount of depth discussing the influence of eighteenth century aesthetics and fashion on lolita, but I’m not going to bother regurgitating any of that essay here. However, in the essay I do discuss the various ways that one can go about creating historically-inspired lolita looks, and that’s something that I’d like to talk about a bit more. Creating a historically-inspired look is both challenging and fun, so, in the next few articles, I’ll be showing you some different ways of channeling late eighteenth century style in sweet, classic, and gothic outfits. Right now, though, let’s take a look at the 1760s.
